Buy Me a Rose

Kenny Rogers can sing. Okay, he can't act, but he can sing. And it is amazing how many good songs he has recorded. Of course, some have been covered so many times you may forget that Kenny was the original artist.

"Buy me a rose" is a good song. Don't laugh. It is some good music. Trust me on this. And it reminds you to remember the little things in life. But, I harp on that enough here. Today, I am using it to make a different point.

The chorus goes like this:

Buy me a rose, call me from work
Open a door for me, what would it hurt
Show me you love me by the look in your eyes
These are the little things I need the most in my life

These things apply to your clients as well. It is the little things that will make them happy. Call a client who you know is sick or has had surgery. Send some flowers. If you read something in the newspaper that will affect one of your clients, clip it out and send it to him/her. Be polite to your clients and ask about personal things.

I try to remember something personal about each client. Then, I ask "How is your son?" or "How was your trip last month?" But, do not do it just to do it. You have to genuinely mean it. Otherwise, you are just being patronizing and your clients will figure it out.

Care about your clients, do something nice for them, and remember it is the little things.
